Yoel Romero out of Anthony Johnson fight
By
VM StaffYoel Romero has been forced to withdraw from his debut with Bellator, meaning his fight with Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson is off.
Bellator released a statement this morning announcing that Romero didn’t clear the pre-fight medical tests and as such, his fight with Johnson would be rescheduled and his place in the Light Heavyweight Grand Prix would be forfeit. The two were scheduled to face each other at Bellator 258 on May 7th.
Due to the failed tests, Yoel Romero will have to wait a period before he can reapply for clearance to compete. In the meantime, the hunt for a tournament alternate is on, with Bellator looking to make an announcement on the replacement as soon as possible. Fans can rest easy knowing the promotion are keen to rebook the match up between the former UFC vets at a future date.
The Bellator 258 Main card will go ahead next week, headlined by Juan Archuleta as he defends his Bantamweight title against Sergio Pettis. The card will also feature the return of Michael ‘Venom’ Page who faces Derek Anderson and Patricky ‘Pitbull’ Freire vs Peter Queally.
