Donald Cerrone gets one last chance
By
VM StaffDonald Cerrone, long time UFC veteran since 2011, has his UFC career on the line as Dana White gives him one last chance to win in the promotion. ‘Cowboy’ was defeated by TKO by Alex Morono in his recent outing at UFC on ESPN 24.
Speaking with TSN, UFC President Dana White stated he would allow Donald Cerrone to fulfil his plan of moving back down to 155lbs. ‘Cowboy’ and his original opponent Diego Sanchez had agreed they would both compete at 170lbs for their planned bout.
“‘Cowboy’, again, steps up, Diego falls out of the fight, and he steps up and takes a last-minute replacement, co-main event,” Dana tells TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter. “He accepted the Diego fight because they both said they would fight at 170. He wants to move down to 155, and I’m going to let him do that.”
Despite this the dark cloud soon loomed over as White was directly asked if this was Cerrone’s last chance to win with the promotion, to which Dana replied ”yes”.
Donald Cerrone has failed to win in his last six outings in the promotion, losing five and one being ruled a No-Contest. Four of those five losses however have come by knockout including his last fight against Alex Morono. Morono was a last minute replacement for Diego Sanchez who was pulled from the fight and his UFC contract after refusing to provide relevant medical information.
After his last loss to Morono, ‘Cowboy’ was quick to dismiss any rumours of him hanging up his gloves any time soon:
”Absolutely not, No way. I’ll never go out like this. I will, 100 percent I’ll know and I’ll come in, and sh*t, hopefully I go in whipping ass right off. There’s no way I’d end like this. I couldn’t let my legacy end like this.”
