Light-Heavyweights needed as Cage Warriors aim to crown new champion

The hunt for Light-Heavyweights is underway as Cage Warriors aim to crown a new 205lb champion at their upcoming San Diego event.

Cage Warriors makes it San Diego debut August 1st and details surrounding the event, other than the location, have been scarce. Finally however, fans and media have something to go off as Cage Warriors President Graham Boylan reveals he is on the hunt for two American Light-Heavyweights to compete for the promotions vacant 205lb title.

In an email sent to US coaches and managers Boylan stated, “I have a vacant light heavy weight title. I would like to put that up for grabs in San Diego on Aug 1 and look to have an All-American shootout for one of the most wanted belts outside of the UFC.”

Boylan then continued: “This new king will have an international opponent for his first defence either in the US in Oct or Europe, if after.” This quote in itself is exciting as it pretty much confirms the promotion will be attempting to return to the States again this year following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

It’s worth noting if Graham Boylan can find two American contenders, it will be the first All-American title fight in Cage Warriors promotional history. Cage Warriors 205lb title has been vacant since the last champion, Modestas Bukauskas defended it back in 2019 against Riccardo Nosiglia before going on to sign with the UFC. Since his departure, we haven’t seen a Light-Heavyweight bout contested in the Cage Warriors cage so expectations will be sky high when the division does eventually relaunch!
