CFFC 97 results: Elise Reed retains title
By
VM StaffCFFC finished their double feature this weekend with an explosive card with exciting finishes up and down the card. Prospects showed out in their debuts and performed for a live crowd at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.
Heavyweights make their debuts (Greg Velasco vs Halston Williams)
It was all Velasco from the jump, he ate a solid combo from Williams but got the takedown, passed to full guard and imposed his will. Velasco threatened submissions before finishing the fight with a TKO from full mount late in the first round. Impressive showing from the New Jersey native and this is a stepping stop, not a stumbling block Williams going forward.
The Bantamweights provide the pace (Efren Escareno vs Matt Turnbull)
The Bantamweights stepped up next. Turnbull fought with some flare and footwork, throwing kicks and spinning backfists. Escareno looked to go forward to nullify the offence with the hard nosed Mexican style of boxing. Both fighters pushed a frenetic pace and both men made great accounts of themselves.
The entire fight was a thoughtful series of micro adjustments from both men, but pressure ultimately won the day for Escareno as he closed out the fight with a nasty RNC along the fence.
Golden shines in the Lightweight Division (Feraris Golden vs Nick Giulietti)
Giulietti dominated the first round, pressuring with his wrestling and attacking the neck. He was warned by ref Bookwater and the action was paused briefly. A point was not deducted but they started standing again, Golden made the most of it by landing hard strikes. Golden kept the momentum up and earned himself the decision win with hard strikes. Giulietti was game to the end and both men were absolutely shattered by the end.
Lyons’s Den at Featherweight (James Lyons vs Beau Samaniego)
Lyons had one word on his mind….attack. He immediately attacked with kicks, securing the takedown and locked in the choke. As Samaniego was going out he landed a punch on referee “No Nonsense” Keith Peterson as he was blacking out. Impressive showing from Lyons.
Perez keeps his 0 at Featherweight (Jose Perez vs Jaleon Reid)
Not much to say about this one, it was fast and Furious.
Both men were striking with power from the get go. Reid dropped Perez and was immediately caught in a triangle attempt, Perez chained submissions his way to a RNC win early in Round 1.
Beautiful.
Reed retains the Cage Fury Straweight Belt (Elise Reed vs Hilarie Rose)
Rose put Reed through the ringer on the ground, attacking with a diverse chain of submissions. Reed remained composed on the ground and eventually established her will with flurry after flurry and earning a TKO in Round 2 to hold onto the Women’s CFFC Strawweight belt.
