The UFC’s $175 million crypto deal and what it means for the fighters

The UFC’s parent company, Endeavour, recently went public and fans jumped on to buy some shares, fans downloaded trading apps and looked to own a share in one of their favorite companies. I bought a few and they have remained somewhat consistent, I still hold out the hope that they shoot up in value if McGregor prevails but it is what it is…

Now they’re looking for that sweet e-currency, playboy. And you know what the most unsurprising part about it is? The fighters aren’t getting any of it, unless they have a particularly savvy manager but apart from that the fighters are looking at nothing. The UFC might build another Performance Institute, this time on the moon, but the kickback of this venture ends there.

In a company where they might get a bit of healthcare, the fighters do have the privilege of wearing the UFC’s new crypto sponsorship for the next 10 years, as they have signed a deal with crypto.com valued at a small sum of 175 million dollars.

The UFC did away with fighters getting their own sponsorships and pocketing that cold hard cash in favor of some uniforms, first Reebok and now Venum. Now the fighters got a bit of that Reebok money, but nowhere near what they were making with their won sponsors. They can still avail of some sponsorships that adorn the canvas of Octagon. Monster Energy for example, if Hans Molenkamp thinks you’d look good on one his Instagram skits.

NBA players are paid partially in e-currency, and as we know the market is volatile so having your income made up of the stuff is a bit risky as if it thanks you have zilch.

Now, you might say that the UFC fighters are not “employees” and are “free agents” which means they can be exploited at big businesses leisure like a lot of people can because a lot of the world we see today has been built on technicalities.

That is why they should get together and form a union, to get all this sort of stuff changed, fighters fight. Maybe the UFC will cut them in on the deal, if they could get a slice of that sweet crypto, we could see a lot of fighters sitting pretty if all goes well with the market. But, if I understand the way the UFC conduct themselves when it comes to their own fighters…
