Fans outrage at UFC show on Dillashaw PED use

Once an anti-hero of sorts in the eyes of fans, TJ Dillashaw has been established as a bad guy in MMA since 2019. The former bantamweight champion infamously tested positive for PEDs after losing to Henry Cejudo. This meant he was stripped of his title and suspended from competition for 2 years.

This weekend, he makes his return to the Octagon after 30 months on the sidelines. His opponent will be #2 ranked Cory Sandhagen, a former training partner of Dillashaw and surging contender. To mark the occasion, the UFC released an episode of UFC Chronicles about Dillashaw.

The premise of the episode was an apologetic Dillashaw explaining why he cheated, the effect it had on his life and how he plans to redeem himself. It depicts his struggle with the weight cut to 125lbs during his camp in 2019, which led to problems with anemia. Dillashaw claims that he took EPO in the form of procrit, a medication for anemia.

Fans took to social media to voice their dismay with the UFC’s handling of the series. Many say that the promotional team are trying to spin his drug test failure as a good thing to build hype for his return.

Take a look at some of the reactions from Twitter and YouTube!

It’s fair to say that fans are unbelieving of Dillashaw’s apology and explanation. He fights this Saturday at the UFC APEX in a potential title eliminator bout.
