Mike Mathetha, Israel Adesanya teammate signs with UFC

Another member of City Kickboxing Team has been snapped up by the UFC as welterweight Mike Mathetha joins the promotions roster.

Renowned kickboxer Mike Mathetha (3-0) was surprised with the news on Sunday in the City Kickboxing gym by coach Eugene Bareman. Bareman pretended to be praising Israel Adesanya before revealing the news to ‘Blood Diamond’. Since then, it’s been revealed that the touted welterweight prospect has signed a four-fight deal with the UFC. Speaking via Instagram, Eugene Bareman had this to say.

@blood_diam0nd joins the UFC. We surprised @blood_diam0nd by bringing up @stylebender and talking about bloods journey but in reference to Israel, as too not giveaway the surprise we had for Bloods, they both share very similar journeys of sacrifice dedication and commitment. A true gentlemen of the NZ combat sports scene, whos body of work includes over 100 fights all over the world against some of the best on the planet. Hes developed his own unique style and now its time to show the UFC welterweight division just exactly what he brings!”

‘Blood Diamond’ now joins the likes of UFC middleweight and featherweight champions Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski. City Kickboxing team also boast Brad Riddell, Kai Kara-France, Shane Young, Dan Hooker and Carlos Ulberg amongst their UFC signees, making Mike Mathetha’s arrival all the more exciting.

A debut date has not yet been set, but stay tuned to VMTV for updates as they come!
