Rico Verhoeven vs Alistair Overeem in the works for GLORY title

The most dominant force in heavyweight kickboxing will welcome an MMA legend back to the sport. Reports suggest Alistair Overeem will have his debut fight in GLORY against champ Rico Verhoeven.

Since his departure from the UFC, it was a mystery to find out where heavyweight legend Alistair Overeem (47-19, 1 NC) was headed. The Dutchman announced he would be signing with GLORY, the world leader in pro kickboxing. As most know, Overeem has a wealth of experience in kickboxing and claimed the K1 Grand Prix title in 2010.

It will be GLORY’s current heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven that will welcome Overeem back to the ring.

Verhoeven has made a name for himself in GLORY as a dominant force. Riding a 13-fight win-streak, he has 9 successful title defenses under his belt. Having held the title since 2014, Holland’s Verhoeven has no intention of dropping the title anytime soon.

Nothing has been confirmed by the promotion as of right now, but the bout is in the works. It is hoped that a deal will be closed before the end of the year. No location has been set, but it’s presumed to be in both men’s native Netherlands.

Neither man has announced that the fight is being worked on. It was first reported by GiveMeSport.

Overeem’s (10-4 in kickboxing) last kickboxing fight was a TKO win over Peter Aerts in 2010. He is coming off of a stoppage loss to Alexander Volkov in February in MMA. Verhoeven’s (58-10) last outing saw him beat Tarik Khbabez by TKO in January.
