Mikey Musumeci joins ONE Championship

ONE Championship have been signing some big grappling talent as of late as Danielle Kelly (no relation) and Mikey Musumeci. Will they be competing in MMA? For now they are just grappling for the Asia’s flagship promotion and could potentially make their Mixed Martial Arts debut there. Garry Tonon has competed a number of times with the organization in the ONE FC cage six times and remains undefeated.

The CEO of ONE, Chatri Sityodtong announced the signing on his Instagram:

“Please join me in welcoming 5x Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion Mikey Musumeci to ONE! He reached out directly to me a year ago, asking if he could join the world’s largest stage of martial arts. Needless to say, I have been a big fan for awhile. What I love most about Mikey is that he is a good guy with a good heart, but he is an absolute monster with killer instincts when he competes. Arguably the greatest grappler of all time, Gordon Ryan, has also signed with ONE but has yet to compete under them due his ongoing stomach issues. He was meant to compete against Shinya Aoki last August but Gordon has been away for extended periods of time.

Welcome again to ONE, Mikey! #WeAreONE”

Lets take a look at some of Mikey’s stats:

Musumeci recieved his black belt back in 2015 (at the ripe old age of eighteen) from Jonatas Gurgel and Gilbert Burns. He has won an IBJJF World Championship at every rank from juvenile blue belt to black belt. He is also only one of four Americans to win a world title in his first year as a blackbelt, he did it again the following year and is now the only American with two black belt titles.

The 5X World Champion has also joined the Pedigo Submission Fighting Team under Heath Pedigo (or Daisy Fresh as the team is more commonly known) in Mt. Vernon Illinois. No stranger to new adventures, Mikey is looking to go everywhere and make the most of his BJJ career.
