KSW champion Roberto Soldic to sign with UFC, potential title shot deal in contract

A dominant Croation force could be on his way to the UFC’s elite ranks.

Those who aren’t familiar with the name Roberto Soldic may become very acquainted with him soon. The KSW double-champ has gone undefeated in his last seven bouts and established himself as a major player in the world rankings. His last bout saw him claim his second title, knocking out Mamed Khalidov in round two.

After his middleweight title win in December, ‘Robocop’ has had one fight remaining on his deal with KSW. He had spoken to the media about his possible moves, naming Bellator as a potential organisation he could fight for. Over the weekend, however, Soldic was seen meeting with UFC executives in London.

According to reporter Ariel Helwani, sources close to the meeting say that it ended very positively. UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell is confident that the promotion will sign Soldic in the coming days. This would be a massive acquisition for the UFC, given Soldic’s status on the European scene.

German outlet Bildsport broke the news that Soldic’s contract may see him fight for a UFC title in just three wins. Per the report, three consecutive wins for the Croatian talent would guarantee him a crack at 170lb gold. This kind of deal being spoken about publically is unheard of in modern MMA, but it is speculated that other talents like Bellator’s Michael Chandler and RIZIN’s Jiri Prochazka recieved similar stipulations.

Since 2016, Soldic’s only losses have come to Bellator welterweight champion Yaroslav Amosov and UFC middleweight prospect Dricus du Plessis. The latter loss was avenged in their next outing, with Soldic scoring a vengeful first round KO over du Plessis. It’s possible that we may see a rubber match between the two in the UFC, if Soldic moves to the 185lb division.

Will we see Soldic in the UFC this year? Do you think he deserves to have a guarenteed title shot written into his contract? Let us know in the comments!
