Fabricio Werdum wants to make a comeback for a PFL super fight in June

There are three guarantees in life; death, taxes, and MMA fighters coming out of retirement after a year long hiatus. Fabricio Werdum (26-4) has now unretired after a couple of months following his withdrawal from the PFL season in early 2022. The former UFC Heavyweight champ stated that he was done with Mixed Martial Arts due to the emergence of a brain injury that saw an abrupt end to a legendary career (although he did say he would come back for a boxing match).

The 44 year old has been medically cleared to compete again after this health scare and it looking to make a comeback in a big way over at the Professional Fighters League. He wants to comeback in June. He has been training hard in every aspect of the game in preparation for his return to the cage, per BJPenn.com:

“I don’t have any injuries – well, I’ve had a few surgeries but nothing bad. My head is fine and I’ve always said the most important thing is having both your body and mind right. I’m aligning both things. I’ve been lifting weights, doing boxing. … I want to fight again, hopefully around June. I’ll be ready.”

“It can be like a super fight or a fight outside of the season, or a season fight because it happens – people get injured or can’t fight so I’ll step in there. I have no problem doing that. I think the most important thing is that I want to fight, hopefully June 24 or July. I want to fight.”

The PFL Heavyweight Roster

It would be exciting to see a seasoned veteran like Werdum step in with the front runners of the 2022 season of PFL. Matchups with the former Jungle Fight champion Bruno Cappelozza, fellow UFC Veteran Justin Willis, or the former ACB champion Denis Goltsov could produce fireworks. “Vai Cavalo” wants to make a lot of noise in his return so looking to scrap with the wolves at the head of the pack is definitely the way to do it. If Werdum makes enough noise he may also be in line for a title shot opposite Ali Isaev and give himself the chance to add another belt to his already stellar resume.
