PFL considering adding mens Bantamweight and Women’s Flyweight Divisions

PFL president, Ray Sefo, admitted after PFL 6 that the promotion are considering adding a mens Bantamweight division and Women’s Flyweight division.

The news comes after current Cage Warriors Bantamweight champion, Dom Wooding, told VMTV that the PFL have offered him a multi-fight deal, with negotiations between himself and Cage Warriors ongoing.

PFL 6 took place in the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, and it was the first time the promotion touched down in the state capital. The remainder of The men’s Welterweight and women’s Lightweight regular season bouts took place, with the main event of the evening seeing 2-time women’s Lightweight champion, Kayla Harrison, defeat challenger Kaitlin Young.

During the post fight press conference, president, Ray Sefo, admitted that the promotion are weighing up adding a mens 135lb division, as well as a women’s Flyweight division, saying that they’re ‘50% there’.

With the promotion broadening their horizons, hosting their inaugural UK events this coming August, their plans to expand their roster are now becoming clear.

Ray Sefo said: “We’re talking right now about adding 1 or 2 more weight divisions (Mens 135lb and Women’s 125lb). Again, that’s going to play into how we go about structuring the actual format and the actual season so that all the fighters get enough time to rest and come back.”

Ray Sefo also explained the reasoning for the promotion wanting to add those two weight divisions in particular, saying: “For the women’s at 125lb, the 115lb women who maybe a bit too big to make 115 could come up and the ones that are a bit lighter (at 125) could go down.

“Of course the mens 135lb division is an exciting division to have, so that’s what we’re looking at.”
