OKTAGON 35 Results | Patrik Kincl Blasts Through Alex Lohore To Retain Title
By
VM StaffOKTAGON 35 took place on Saturday evening (September 17) from Winning Group Arena in Brno, Czech Republic and it was billed as the biggest combat sports event that the city had ever seen. The European promotion delivered once again and fans around the world are now beginning to realise that the Czech Republic is a real hotbed for MMA. A sold-out crowd of almost 9,000 witnessed some of the best talent in the territory turning in statement performances, which sets up some massive OKTAGON MMA fights for the remainder of the year.
In the main event, Patrik Kincl (26-10, 1NC) successfully defended his middleweight title for the first time when he knocked out Alex Lohore (21-8) in just under two minutes. Many were expecting a classic ‘striker vs. grappler’ matchup but Kincl tore up that script as soon as the contest began. He found his range immediately and landed a big left head kick before unleashing a barrage of punches. ‘The Inspector’ forced the referee to step in as he hit Lohore with two huge elbows that sent the Bellator veteran tumbling to the mat, ensuring Kincl fulfilled his promise of finishing his adversary – something that rival Karlos Vémola could not previously achieve.
It was an emphatic victory for Kincl and was arguably the best performance of his career. After the bout, the aforementioned OKTAGON MMA light heavyweight champion, Karlos Vémola, entered the cage and the pair exchanged some heated words. ‘The Terminator’ made it clear weeks ago that he wanted to take the OKTAGON MMA middleweight title before the end of 2022 to become a two-weight champion. The prospect of a rematch between both men, with much higher stakes than when they first met years ago, has fans and media salivating in anticipation.
Karol Ryšavý (11-4) defeated František Fodor (9-7) by first round TKO in the ‘Slovak derby’ and showed once again why he is one of the most clinical finishers in the organisation. His technical and slick striking was on display throughout the co-headliner and he also came close to finishing an arm-triangle when the contest hit the canvas. ‘Bomby’ was constantly one step ahead of his opponent and with 10 stoppage wins in 11 fights, it is clear to see why he is a fan-favourite in the lightweight division.
Elsewhere on the main card, Jakub Dohnal (11-2) overcame David Moon (10-6) in an exciting back-and-forth striking contest at featherweight, where both men had bright moments. Andrej Kalašnik (10-3), Robert Pukač (16-10-1) and Ronald Paradeiser (14-8) also picked up decisive decision victories to add another important win to their records.
In preliminary action, Radek Roušal (20-5 kickboxing) defeated Marek Bartl (10-11 MMA) in a special ‘Underground’ rules bout which delivered thrilling stand-up action. Tough Englishman, James Lewis (8-4),had a successful promotional debut when he defeated the inaugural winner of OKTAGON Challenge Germany, Selim Topuz (6-4-1), by submission in the first round. Following the victory, Lewis called out Gábor Boráros in the cage after ‘Beast’ withdrew from their scheduled contest earlier this week. Also, Radovan Úškrt (6-3) continued his 100% first round knockout finishing streak, stopping Denis Kurdinov (4-2-1) in a middleweight contest.
The loyal fans of Brno were also treated to a special appearance from MMA world light heavyweight champion, Jiří Procházka. He has made history for the sport in the Czech Republic and is a genuine superstar in his hometown. Winning Group Arena rose to its feet when Procházka entered the cage and paraded his belt for all to see, reminding everyone that mixed martial artists based in the country can be as good as any in the world.
