Eddie Alvarez 4 year run with ONE Championship comes to an end

After 4 years with the promotion, “The Underground King” Eddie Alvarez has decided to part ways with ONE Championship.

Alvarez (30-8) confirmed the decision had been made to terminate his contract on Tuesday, reaffirming fans that he has left the organisation on “good terms”.

The former UFC lightweight King only managed 4 fights under the ONE banner ever since he was signed in 2018, going 1-2, 1 NC in the promotion, while falling victim to some rough results. But as always, in the true fashion of “The Underground King”, providing us with all action entertainment.

Now at 38 years old and in the twilight of his career, Alvarez has no intentions to put the gloves down just yet, expressing his desire to test free agency, and with the fire still burning he’s “Ready to Hunt”.

Still ticking after a long and storied career, Alvarez is closing in on his 20th year as a professional, within that time having fought all over, from Dream and K-1 to Bellator and the UFC, winning a championship in the latter two during his prime years.

Eddie has fought a the who’s who of MMA competition, from veterans like Shinya Aoki to superstars such as Conor Mcgregor, he has the career pedigree and name value that would be valuable to any organisation, with the kill or be killed style to match. But the question remains, where will he reside during the next chapter of his career?

Among the MMA masses, the PFL is seemingly the promotion that sticks out as one who makes the most sense to aquire his services next. The million dollar monetary prize as well as the growing talent pool they have is as good an incentive as ever, with fellow veterans such as Anthony Pettis and Rory Macdonald following this same route.

The move makes even more sense when you look at the actions of the PFL in recent weeks, going on some what of a signing spree, already adding UFC featherweight Shane Burgos and light heavyweight Thiago Santos to their ranks.

Wherever Alvarez decides to go, the entertainment value will always be there and we can’t wait to see him back in the cage. He will always be “The Underground King”, having left a lasting legacy on the sport we love.
