PREVIEW | Jonathan Haggerty vs Vladimir Kuzmin | ONE On Prime Video 4
By
VM StaffA new home is on the horizon for Jonathan Haggerty. After a successful stint in ONE Championship’s flyweight Muay Thai division that included holding the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Championship, the British standout will embark on a new journey at bantamweight.
The change in division to 145lbs comes after recent health scares with weight cutting down to flyweight for Haggerty. Therefore, this Friday, 18th November at ONE on Prime Video 4: Abbasov vs. Lee, the 25-year-old will make his divisional debut against fierce Russian, Vladimir Kuzmin.
It’s easy to see why Haggerty has become a fan favourite in ONE Championship. His forward-pressing approach to Muay Thai quickly made him an exciting addition to the flyweight rankings as he worked his way up through each assignment.
After reaching the top of the mountain to win the flyweight Muay Thai crown from Sam-A Gaiyanghadao at ONE: For Honor 3 in 2019, Jonathan Haggerty entered two legendary battles with current ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion, Rodtang Jitmuangnon.
However, despite responding well to losing his championship with two straight victories at 135lbs, Haggerty’s body told him it was time to make a change. That change begins with a fresh new chapter tonight when “The General” faces Russia’s striking prodigy Kuzmin.
Kuzmin has been developing a forceful regime in the bantamweight division and welcoming a grizzled young veteran like Haggerty is exactly what his attitude is about. His two outings in the ONE Circle thus far have displayed beautiful destruction of his opposition over the course of three rounds.
His introduction into ONE Championship last February saw a bloody display at hand upon Chris Shaw as his vicious combinations and utilisation of elbows made for a nasty night’s work with his Scottish counterpart.
Never in an easy fight however, Kuzmin suffered a bump in the road last time around, coming up short in a decision defeat to Muangthai PK.Saenchai. The 19-fight veteran will be relishing the opportunity to get back to winning ways on the lead card and against a solid name in Haggerty, no less.
It’s a battle for divisional dominancy tonight. Haggerty will be looking to stomp his authority in his new home, whilst Kuzmin enters the biggest contest of his professional Muay Thai career.
