EXCLUSIVE | Stamp Fairtex Talks Angela Lee, Mixed Rules Bout With Anissa Meksen
By
VM StaffAtomweight standout Stamp Fairtex may have experienced a mixed bag in 2022, but she believes lessons have been learned from each endeavour.
The Thai standout entered the year as the ONE Atomweight World Grand Prix Champion, putting her on a collision course with ONE Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee at ONE X in March.
Stamp’s improved mixed martial arts abilities were prominently on show against the Singaporean-American superstar, and she hurt her with combinations in the first frame. Ultimately, though, “Unstoppable” turned things around to score a submission win in the second frame.
Losing out on the World Title was a tough pill to swallow, but Stamp Fairtex had proven her ability to hang with the best atomweights ONE has to offer, and she justifiably remained at the top of the division’s rankings.
Responding in fantastic fashion, Stamp returned to action at ONE on Prime Video 2 in October, battling Jihin Radzuan to a unanimous decision victory.
Looking back on 2022, Stamp is satisfied with her development.
“My life has been pretty cool this year,” the Thai striker said.
“I had a big chance to face Angela Lee for the World Title. Although I lost, I didn’t regret sharing the Circle with her. I learned a great lesson from that fight. It was a big, good test for me.
“Plus, with my performance in that fight, I proved the haters wrong. Previously, a lot of people underestimated my MMA skills. I’ve been able to prove myself in fights and make those trolls silent. It was a great year.”
With 16 fights to her name in ONE Championship, including World Championships in kickboxing and Muay Thai, and an MMA Grand Prix strap to boot, Stamp’s has achieved many things at only 25 years old.
But the atomweight superstar still has boxes to tick off, and with 2023 looming, she is set to make history in her next bout.
On Friday, January 13th, Stamp takes on striking legend Anissa Meksen at ONE on Prime Video 6 – the promotion’s first-ever women’s mixed rules bout – and she is ready to kick the year off with a bang.
“The year 2023 would be my ideal year. Of course, I’m going to start the year with a special-rules fight. It will be a great opportunity to write a new page of my own history and create my own legacy. It’s a good start to the year,” she said.
