Mikey Musumeci to defend his world championship this Friday

At ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video, ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci will look to defend his title for the first time. Right at the forefront of the promotion’s expansion into submission grappling, Musumeci made history at ONE on Prime Video 2 in October.

Defeating Cleber Souza via unanimous decision, Musumeci became the first submission grappling world champion in ONE’s history. With Kade Ruotolo becoming a champion at the following event, the two stars are helping ONE to become a new home for the best of the best when it comes to grappling.

This Friday at ONE’s first event of the year, Mikey Musumeci will defend his flyweight crown for the very first time when he faces Gantumur Bayanduuren. The champion was originally scheduled to face sambo gold medalist Sayan Khertek but now has potentially an even tougher task ahead of him. Not only does Bayanduuren specialise in combat sambo, he also holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has experience competing in MMA.

Known for his irregular eating habits and insane work rate, Musumeci is an enigma in submission grappling. An incredible advert for Jiu-Jitsu being for absolutely anyone, ‘Darth Rigatoni’ is “practice makes perfect” personified.

Musumeci vs Bayanduuren takes place in the main event of ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video. Live from the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, the event airs at US Prime Time and is free to watch for North American audiences with an active Prime subscription.

For ONE Championship fans in the UK, the event is likely to be streamed in full on the promotion’s YouTube Channel. There is currently a livestream scheduled for 1AM on Saturday 14th.
