Jake Paul slated to box Nate Diaz on August 5th

There are few fighters that stir up controversy in the combat sports community like Jake Paul. The 26 year old made the transition from social media influencer to pro boxer in 2020, making waves against former UFC champions Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva. Paul suffered his first career loss to Tommy Fury in February, snapping a six-fight win-streak. He’s now scheduled to share the ring with another legend of MMA.
The man that will be stood opposite from Paul is Nate Diaz, a beloved veteran of the UFC’s lightweight and welterweight divisions who is making his professional boxing debut. The fan-favourite ended his storied tenure with the promotion in September of last year, going out on a stoppage win against Tony Ferguson. His UFC journey saw him win TUF 5, challenge for the 155lb championship and have a pair of infamous bouts with Conor McGregor.
First reported by Ariel Helwani, the boxing contest will take place on August 5th. The location is set for Dallas, Texas, though an arena has yet to be announced. A maximum of eight rounds will be in place for the bout, which will take place at a catchweight of 185lbs.
Paul had previously mentioned the idea of facing Diaz in two fights – one in boxing and one in MMA. No confirmation has been made on whether or not this will be case, but it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility. Diaz is currently a free agent and Paul signed with PFL at the beginning of the year, giving them the facilities to host the supposed two-fight deal.
