Colby Covington next in line says Dana White

Colby Covington is back and will be watching this weekends UFC 261 headliner very closely as it’s revealed he will be facing the winner of Kamaru Usman vs Jorge Masvidal.

The news broke as Dana White spoke with TSN about Usman and the current plans surrounding contenders. Kamaru Usman is on a 13 fight winning streak and has beaten all foes put in front of him:

“He’s coming back and going to be facing guys that he already beat. Obviously, Masvidal took that fight on short notice so let’s give him this fight and we can do away with all the excuses. Then, Colby Covington’s next.” White told reporters before continuing: “Who knows. Anything can happen. Guys get injured, things happen, timing. Who knows, especially in this day and age but that should be the fight [with Colby Covington] that happens next.”

Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman last fought at UFC 245, where Usman reigned victorious after a fifth round TKO. Covington’s jaw was subsequently broken after the ”fight of the night” brawl but he still complained about the stoppage to officials and fans. After numerous calls for a rematch, it finally seems Colby will be getting his wish and with a victory over Tyron Woodley in 2020, it’s hard for White to dismiss him.

On the flipside however, should Jorge Masvidal get the business done at UFC 261 we could be in for a very different round of events. Masvidal and Covington were former teammates at American Top Team in Florida. A fallout took place and an intense rivalry has remained between the two, leaving fans wanting to see the beef settled!

Going forward, us the fans and Colby Covington especially will have to wait and see who emerges victorious at UFC 261. What do you make of Dana’s decision to give Colby a title shot? Let us know in the comments below!
