Tyron Woodley removed from UFC rankings, Suspicions rise

Tyron Woodley has been removed from the UFC fan rankings and is listed as a former fighter on the official UFC website. The aforementioned has caused serious suspicions within the MMA community that Woodley has or will enter free agency.

“The Chosen One” fought out his UFC contract against Vincent Luque at UFC 260, in which he was defeated by a Brabo Choke in the first round. It was Woodley’s fourth consecutive defeat which includes decision losses to Kamaru Usman, Gilbert Burns and a TKO defeat to Colby Covington. After the fight, Dana White didn’t seem optimistic on the future of the former UFC welterweight champion:

”Fight of the Night.’ They came to fight. Obviously, Luque, a rising star, a kid on the up, and Woodley, who takes a lot of criticism. That kid came to fight tonight and he went out on his shield tonight, man. He came to fight, Listen, how old’s Tyron now? 39? That’s four in a row. Yeah.”

Whilst no official statement has been made regarding the release, a similar situation happened involving Junior Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem in which both fighters were released from the promotion. If this is indeed the end for Tyron Woodley, then he leaves with an incredible resume that will cement his legacy in the promotion. Woodley defeated Robbie Lawler for the UFC title back at UFC 201 and went on to defend his title four times against the likes of Stephen Thompson, Demian Maia and Darren Till.
