Leon Edwards vs Nate Diaz postponed, moves to UFC 263
By
VM StaffFans will have to wait a little longer for Leon Edwards to return to action as his UFC 262 bout with Nate Diaz is postponed. Nate Diaz has surprisingly withdrawn from the fight due to an undisclosed injury and the fight will be pushed back a month to UFC 263.
The news broke this morning when Yahoo! Sports Kevin Iole announced Nate Diaz has had to withdraw from his UFC 262 co-main event against Leon Edwards due to an undisclosed, yet minor injury. Multiple sources later confirmed the news and took to Twitter to announce the setback.
History will be made at UFC 263 when the pair finally clash as their co-main event fight will be the first five round, non-title, non-main event match-up in UFC history. Leon Edwards was last seen in action at UFC Vegas 21 where he fought Belal Muhammed in the main event. Unfortunately, the fight ended in a no-contest due to an unintentional eye poke by Edwards. To rub salt in the wounds the fight with Muhammed was Edwards first since July 2019. Edward’s was in fact scheduled to face Tyron Woodley in the main event of UFC London back in 2020 but the card was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With long periods of inactivity and rescheduled fights, this mornings news is just another set back in the Birmingham athletes path to a title shot. One which should definitely be on the horizon with a win over the Stockton native at UFC 263.
