VM StaffAt ONE: Full Blast II, Former Lumpinee Stadium Muay Thai World Champion Mongkolpetch Petchyindee Academy out struck #4-ranked flyweight Muay Thai contender Elias “The Sniper” Mahmoudi on his way to a majority decision victory.
Mongkolpetch was aggressive in the first round, digging into Mahmoudi’s legs with roundhouse kicks and going upstairs with elbows. Mahmoudi also had his moments, and it was a mostly even opening frame for both fighters.
In the second round, Mongkolpetch continued to invest in leg kicks to slow Mahmoudi’s movement. Midway through the stanza, the Thai dropped Mahmoudi with a sharp combination that was highlighted by a beautiful straight right to the chin. The French-Algerian tried to mount a rally in the final frame, but Mongkolpetch matched his intensity and cruised the rest of the way.
After three rounds, the Petchyindee Academy standout earned the nod on two of three scorecards to take home the pivotal decision victory and make his case for a spot in the official flyweight Muay Thai rankings.
In the co-main event, lightweight Amarsanaa Tsogookhuu gave previously unbeaten Ben Wilhelm the first loss of his professional mixed martial arts career behind a masterful striking performance.
The first round saw Wilhelm charge at Tsogookhuu, looking to close the distance. As a result, the Mongolian teed off on the American submission specialist, landing a plethora of significant strikes. In the second round, Tsogookhuu continued his onslaught, staggering Wilhelm on multiple occasions with stiff punches to the chin. In the final stanza, the Mongolian wisely kept his distance, connecting on strikes from range while frustrating Wilhelm.
All three judges scored the bout in favor of Tsogookhuu to win by unanimous decision.
Earlier, “The Big Heart” Yoon Chang Min took care of business against the dangerous “Cannon” Ma Jia Wen, winning by rear-naked choke submission in the first round of their featherweight mixed martial arts bout.
And in a ONE Super Series kickboxing contest, Taiki “Silent Sniper” Naito upset #4-ranked flyweight kickboxing contender “Metal Storm” Wang Wenfeng to win by unanimous decision after three intense rounds of action.
