Kevin Lee says Tony Ferguson is “too far gone”

Kevin Lee doesn’t seem at all interested in avenging his loss to Tony Ferguson following a recent interview with James Lynch.

Back in 2017, Kevin Lee fought Tony Ferguson in the main event of UFC 216 for the interim lightweight title. Despite seemingly getting the better of Ferguson in certain moments of the fight, it was ‘El Cucuy’ who ended the fight champion. Submitting Lee in the third round via triangle choke and snapping his five fight winning streak in the process.

It may have been a tough pill to swallow at the time but it’s safe to say ‘Motown Phenom’ isn’t dwelling on it anymore. In fact, due to Tony Ferguson’s recent performances in the octagon, a rematch doesn’t even interest Lee who feels Ferguson is “too far gone”.

“That was a fight that I was interested in up until I saw him just get dismantled by Charles Oliveira, especially on the ground. That one would kind of hurt my heart a little bit because I would beat him so bad that it would of take away from our first fight. That’s one – I would do it. Of course I would do it. Easy money is easy money at this point, but I think he’s too far gone, and I think he’s too far over the hill. I don’t like beating up on people that don’t put up a good fight.”

Lee will return to the octagon at UFC Vegas 35, August 28 where he will return to 170lbs and face Daniel Rodriguez. He last fought at welterweight back in 2019 where he was defeated by Rafael Dos Anjos. Since then, Kevin Lee has gone 1-1 in the UFC, defeating Gregor Gillespie by a brutal head kick before being submitted by now UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira in March 2020.
