Vitor Belfort, Anderson Silva cruise to first round wins at Triller

It seems that both Vitor Belfort and Anderson Silva had better places to be this weekend, and did not want to waste a second with something as trivial as fighting.

Both men were up against names of legendary calibre, yet dispatched them quickly with both men scoring first round finishes.

Belfort stepped into the ring against boxing legend Evander Holyfield for the Triller Boxing event held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood in Miami. Fans expecting to be treated to a master class exhibition were sadly disappointed, as Vitor Belfort laid Holyfield down on the canvas for the second time and clinched the TKO victory – all within the very first round.

At 58, and unable to land a single blow of his own, it is safe to say that Holyfield’s star studded return did not go as he expected, with concerns being raised how the fight was even sanctioned in the first place.

This seems thematic with legends of a certain vintage, as Tito Ortiz and Anderson Silva, both 46; stepped between the ropes for what promised to be a showdown for the ages. Sadly for the fans again however, The Spider had other ideas, and put a stop to proceedings after just 81 seconds, scoring a vicious knockout over The Huntington Beach Bad Boy.

It is undeniable that in both cases, the men emerging victorious have no shortage of power when it comes to landing strikes, however it seems that for their opponents, the gas tank simply cannot hold as much as it used to past a certain age.

Is boxing, (or indeed combat sports in general) best left to the younger age bracket, or is there a case to be made that ring rust does not spread to the brain and that when used correctly; a wealth of experience is a fighters most powerful weapon?
