Violent One: Matty Byfield
By
VM StaffThe votes are in as another month of violence passes and it’s Birmingham’s own Matty Byfield who dominates the fan vote to earn the Violent One award for the month of August.
Competing in the Light Heavyweight division, Matty ‘Farda’ Byfield holds a perfect professional record of 3-0, all coming by way of first round finish. His versatile striking and dominant ground game have caused issues for all opposition that have dared step in the cage with him. He’s made a strong impression amongst the UK MMA scene and his recent performance at Caged Steel 26 has not just earned him August’s Violent One award, but recognition at an international level in form of promotion Levels Fight League.
You can see in the above video as the fight goes to the canvas Byfield is almost too comfortable as his opponent desperately tries to escape back to his feet. It’s in these desperate movements Byfield really shows off his phenomenal fight IQ, making minor adjustments to gradually position himself to set up the Arm Triangle and smoothly pass over and secure it, forcing his opponent to submit only moments later. With skill and composure of this level, this early on in his career, it’s truly exciting to see how Matty will grow and progress as an athlete. With a few more wins behind him, it wouldn’t be surprising if a call up to Dana White’s Contender Series was on the cards.
Byfield trains out of one of the UK’s elite MMA gyms Team Renegade in Birmingham and trains closely with numerous high level athletes including Bellator athlete Aiden Lee. Matty Byfield will return to action October 10th against undefeated French prospect Paulin Begai for Levels Fight League in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The Violent One is a monthly showcase which shines a light on athletes who have made waves in the MMA community through their actions in the cage. Each month four athletes are selected and you, the fans, vote on who is crowned our King or Queen of violence!
