“Shanks, Creasey, the lot… They’ll be in for a shock when they fight me.” Lewis McGrillen outlines his plans for 2022

Young British fighter, Lewis McGrillen, has outlined his plans for inside the cage in 2022, mentioning a few names he’d like to stand across from.

The 21-year-old Mancunian made his professional debut in May this year, knocking out Marcus Hammond in round 1, introducing himself to the MMA world. Just four months later, he returned to the cage at Celtic Gladiator 30, scoring another highlight reel knockout with a slip right hand counter, beating Charlie Falco with under a minute to go in the first round.

In his final fight of the year, McGrillen once again won by way of knockout against Marcondes Bastos, finishing the year 3-0, not seeing the 2nd round once. McGrillen said:

“It is amazing. I really am buzzing with my performances I’ve put on so far, I know what I’m capable of and so does my team around me. In a way I’m not surprised with the finishes I’m just surprised how much I’m improving as a fighter.”

The Manchester Top Team prospect already has a lot of hype around his name, amassing over 20,000 followers on his social media accounts, with MMA fans around the world keeping a close eye on him.

“The support I get really is something else. It’s pretty crazy to think I’m just a lad from Wythenshawe Manchester, now young kids on my estate really take a shine to me and I feel I do need to play a role model for them.” McGrillen said.

With the massive following he’s already gained and the highlight knockouts he’s added to his reel, there are a lot of calls for the Brit to be picked up by top UK promotion, Cage Warriors.

Cage Warriors are always looking to bolster their roster with young talent from across the globe, and on December 17th, they signed another 21 fighters from across Europe and the USA. In an official statement they said: “After an incredible 2021, Europe’s leading MMA promotion will look to make 2022 even bigger with new signings and new locations to hold events.”

McGrillen himself explained how keen he is to fight ‘the best of the best’, and luckily for the MMA world, the names he has in mind for 2022 are current Cage Warriors Flyweights. The 21-year-old said: “I just want to fight the best of the best. That’s why I’m here, I’d love to fight them all, Shanks, Creasey the lot, all the top opposition.

“I just know the way I’m improving they’ll be in for a shock when they fight me. I’m definitely going to be fighting on a big show next fight, I promise you that one.”
