Jorge Masvidal under police investigation for felony battery in Miami
By
VM StaffOne of MMA’s biggest stars, Jorge Masvidal, is facing legal repercussions for an alleged assault in his native Miami. News emerged earlier this week about a physical altercation involving the UFC welterweight and another party. The incident allegedly occurred outside Papi Steak in Miami, Florida. All witnesses and parties involved state that Masvidal was the instigator.
According to the police report, as well as other sources, Masvidal waited outside the steakhouse for the other party. Upon finding him, Masvidal ran up behind the victim and struck him twice. The BMF champion apparently wore a hoodie and surgical mask to attempt to remain his anonymity, but did speak to the victim. The alleged dialogue to the victim was “don’t talk about my kids.”
Reports suggest that the victim suffered a chipped tooth and wrist abbrasion as a result of the attack. The claim is that he was hit once in the mouth & once in the eye.
Under Marsy’s Law, the victim cannot legally be identified and confirmed, but it is highly suspected to be former UFC titleholder Colby Covington. Video footage recorded by TMZ showed Covington speaking to police, detailing the incident. Masvidal also took to social media, asking Covington to “show his face” after the altercation. Covington was proven to be in Papi Steak at the time of the attack, as he was with social media group Nelk Boys.
Bitter rivals, Covington and Masvidal fought in the main event of UFC 272 earlier this month. Masvidal would lose the fight by lopsided decision, but spent the days after letting the MMA world know that the beef was not over.
Masvidal has yet to be charged, but could be facing a potential felony battery charge if investigation continues.
