UFC Vegas 60 | 3 Fighters Flying Under The Radar

This Saturday, the UFC returns to the Apex (sigh) with a fun looking UFC Vegas 60 card, headlined by ranked bantamweights as Cory Sandhagen takes on Song Yadong. Elsewhere on the card though there are some surging fighters worth keeping an eye on.

Fresh off his brother Farid earning his UFC contract on Tuesday, Javid Basharat will take to the octagon this weekend for his sophomore UFC outing and is looking to make it a second win. Representing Great Britain and Afghanistan, “The Snow Leopard” has stepped up his training as of late, moving to Xtreme Couture. He fights Tony Gravely, who quietly is on a strong run of his own with two wins on the bounce, including a first round finish in his last outing. He has the experience edge over Basharat, but Javid has shown a wide arsenal in his two fights under the UFC banner (including Contender Series), getting a submission finish to earn his contract, as well as showing the technical striking that he possesses to great effect in gaining a unanimous victory over Trevin Jones. He comes into this fight as a -180 favourite and a win will put the former Contenders MMA champion in a big spot in the bantamweight division.

Joe Pyfer

“Be Joe Pyfer” were the words uttered by UFC President when awarding “Bodybagz” his contract on week one of Dana White’s Contender Series this summer. The Pennsylvanian made a statement that night, knocking out LFA Middleweight Champion Ozzy Diaz in the second round. At just 25-years old, and eight of his nine wins coming by finish, Pyfer seems to have a lot of tools for success in the UFC, and seemingly being a favourite of Dana White can’t hurt. He takes on Alen Amedovski, who is 0-3, with two of those being finishes inside the first 64-seconds. That tells you what you need to know about this fight. It’s as much of a set-up as you’re going to see in the UFC. Pyfer should get this done very quickly, and his position as a -420 favourite still doesn’t quite seem as high as it should.

Daniel Zellhuber

“The Golden Boy” makes his UFC debut on Saturday, sporting an impressive 12-0 record with nine of those coming via finish. He is one of a number exciting prospects from Mexico to debut in the UFC in recent months, and in submission specialist Trey Ogden, he faces a challenge which he may not have faced in his career to date. Ogden is 0-1 in the UFC, a short-notice fight against Jordan Leavitt, but racked up ten submission victories on the regional scene prior to that. Zellhuber though has the power and the look to become a star for the UFC and a win over Trey Ogden at just 23-years old, he will kickstart the journey to reach that potential.
