Amber Kitchen Says It’s “Make Or Break” Against Jackie Buntan At ONE On Prime Video 5
By
VM StaffAmber Kitchen’s run in ONE Championship hasn’t gone the way the British striking star had hoped when she arrived at the promotion in 2019.
After back-to-back defeats in the Circle, with the latest coming in her first outing since 2019 against Diandra Martin in August, Kitchen knows she has to right the ship.
She’ll get a chance to do just that when she takes on old foe Jackie Buntan in a strawweight Muay Thai battle at ONE On Prime Video 5: De Ridder vs. Malykhin this Friday, 2nd December.
Though the latest result stung her, the 23-year-old credits herself for taking the fight, given it was new territory.
“It was my first fight back in three years. It was the first time I’d fought in 4oz gloves and my first time in a cage. I think, mentally, it was a lot to take on. I wanted to throw myself into it and see how it went. I’ve also never fought someone as tall as [Diandra] Martin, so it was an all-new experience,” Kitchen explained.
“AK 47” and her upcoming opponent, Buntan, share a fighting history that dates back to 2017. Both youthful strikers at the time, it was Kitchen who came away with a unanimous decision victory against the American star on that occasion.
The Brit was charged up by their encounter, and she is excited to face her old rival again, as she fights to get back into the winner’s column.
“Normally, I come out, and I’m like, ‘God, that was exhausting,’ but I really came out buzzing from that fight. Especially because I’d beat her on home soil in America,” Amber Kitchen said.
“I feel confident. I mean, after our last fight, she put posts online saying that was her hardest fight ever, so I’m feeling good about it. We’re both older now. She’s had more experience, but I really feel like this is my time. This is a big jump for me to prove myself again.”
Against a familiar rival on the biggest stage, and with her career in the balance, “AK 47” has no doubts that Friday night is important.
With that, she plans to go hell for leather to reintroduce herself to the division with a bang. After all, it’s now or never.
“This is the biggest fight of my career. I’ve had two losses in ONE now. I’m really driven this time to get a win. It’s obviously a really big one. It’s driving me more. Especially because she’s had a lot of experience on ONE, but I love being the underdog, and I feel like I’ve got nothing to lose. I’ve lost twice now. This is it – I’m going for it,” Kitchen said.
Amber Kitchen returns this Friday night at ONE On Prime Video 5: De Ridder vs. Malykhin. UK fans can watch live at 2am on WATCH.ONEFC.COM, while US & Canada can watch live and free on Amazon Prime with an active Prime subscription.
