Jon Jones to defend title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295
By
VM StaffWith International Fight Week well under way, UFC president Dana White took to social media to announce one of the biggest fights of the year. It’s official: heavyweight champion Jon Jones will make his first title defense against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295.
The event is scheduled to take place on November 11th in Madison Square Garden. While also being the promotion’s annual trip to New York, this event will likely serve as the 30th anniversary event for the UFC.
No other bouts have been announced by the promotion, as of writing.
Jones ended a three-year hiatus from competition back in March, where he submitted Ciryl Gane to claim the vacant heavyweight title. He immediately called for a bout with Miocic, who was in attendance. They agreed for a bout in the summer, which didn’t materialise after negotiations.
Miocic, meanwhile, has been absent from the sport for almost three years. The former champion is the most accomplished heavyweight in the company’s history and has been holding out for a shot at the title. He now gets that chance in the world’s most famous arena.
